Get to know the real Lincoln! In April 2023, a poll was conducted among 237 presidential scholars to rank our presidents from the greatest to the worst. In a field of forty-five chief executives, Abraham Lincoln was ranked as our greatest president. Why? Professor Gerald Henig will present an overview of the man and his presidency, separating fact from fiction. With a focus on Lincoln’s personal life as a son, husband, and father, Henig will also explore the president’s role as commander in chief, masterful politician, Great Emancipator, and skilled communicator. Drop in. No Registration. About the Speaker: Gerald S. Henig is professor emeritus of history at California State University, East Bay, where he won the Pi Kappa Delta Best Lecturer Award an unprecedented four times. He has published three books and numerous articles on American political, social, and military history. Dr. Henig’s most recent book; America's Presidents: What Your History Teacher Never Told You, was named “Best Indie Book of 2024” by Kirkus Reviews.
